The dishwasher is what we are called about, and the reason is a design decision that is excellent engineering and a poor match for this county’s water. ## Condensation drying, and what a drying complaint means Most Bosch dishwashers do not dry with a heating element in the tub. They dry by condensation: the stainless tub is cooler than the load at the end of the cycle, moisture leaves the dishes and condenses on the tub wall, and it drains away. It uses far less energy and it is much gentler on plastics, which is why the design is worth having. It also changes what a drying complaint tells you, and the distinction is worth understanding before anyone quotes a part. Condensation drying depends on the load being hotter than the tub at the end of the cycle. So a machine that is not drying is, nine times out of ten, a machine that is not reaching temperature — which points at the incoming supply temperature, the heating circuit or the sensor that decides when temperature has been reached, in that order. It is a heating diagnosis wearing a drying complaint. The one exception is genuinely useful to know: plastics come out wet on these machines even when everything is working. Plastic holds almost no heat, so it has nothing to drive the moisture off it. That is physics rather than a fault, and it is not something a repair or a part improves. Where drying has changed suddenly rather than always been imperfect, the rinse aid dispenser is worth checking as well. Rinse aid changes how water sheets off a surface rather than beading on it, and a dispenser that has stopped delivering produces a step change in results with nothing else wrong. ## Drainage, the other half of the calls A Bosch that will not drain, with water standing above the filter, is a short list: the filter itself, the drain pump impeller obstructed by glass or a seed, the check valve, or the drain hose high loop and the air gap at the sink. In newer Nocatee and RiverTown kitchens the high loop is frequently the culprit because the disposal was replaced after the dishwasher went in and the hose was never re-routed. A cycle that runs far longer than its stated time is usually not a fault at all. These machines extend the cycle rather than proceed cold, so a long cycle is a report about how quickly water is reaching temperature. Check the incoming supply temperature and the heating circuit before assuming the timer is wrong. ## Ovens, cooktops and refrigeration Bosch wall ovens fail conventionally: elements, sensors, door hinges, control boards. A preheat that has stretched by several minutes usually means an element or a sensor drifting, and it is measurable. Cooktop elements that cycle more than they should point at cooling or at the control board beneath.
